High natural nitric oxide emissions from lakes on Tibetan Plateau under rapid warming

چکیده
Nitrogen oxides affect health and climate. Their emissions, in the form of nitric oxide, from inland waters such as lakes are generally considered negligible absent air quality climate models. Here we find unexpected high emissions oxide remote on Tibetan Plateau, based satellite observations tropospheric nitrogen dioxide vertical column densities subsequent emission inversion at a fine resolution 5 km. The total 135 larger than 50 km2 reach 1.9 metric tons N h−1, comparable to anthropogenic individual megacities worldwide or Tibet Autonomous Region. On average, per unit area 63.4 μg m−2 exceeding those crop fields. متن کاملCorrigendum: Possible recent warming hiatus on the northwestern Tibetan Plateau derived from ice core records
Many studies have reported enhanced warming trend on the Tibetan Plateau (TP), even during the warming hiatus period. However, most of these studies are based on instrumental data largely collected from the eastern TP, whereas the temperature trend over the extensive northwestern TP remains uncertain due to few meteorological stations. Here we combined the stable isotopic δ(18)O record of an ic...
متن کاملDoes the climate warming hiatus exist over the Tibetan Plateau?
The surface air temperature change over the Tibetan Plateau is determined based on historical observations from 1980 to 2013. In contrast to the cooling trend in the rest of China, and the global warming hiatus post-1990s, an accelerated warming trend has appeared over the Tibetan Plateau during 1998-2013 (0.25 °C decade(-1)), compared with that during 1980-1997 (0.21 °C decade(-1)). Further re...
متن کاملClimatic Warming in the Tibetan Plateau during Recent Decades
Adequate knowledge of climatic change over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) with an average elevation of more than 4000 m above sea level (a.s.l.) has been insufficient for a long time owing to the lack of sufficient observational data. In the present study, monthly surface air temperature data were collected from almost every meteorological station on the TP since their establishment. There are 97 sta...
متن کاملShort-Term Effects of Drying and Rewetting on CO2 and CH4 Emissions from High-Altitude Peatlands on the Tibetan Plateau
This study used mesocosms to examine the effects of alternate drying and rewetting on CO2 and CH4 emissions from high-altitude peatlands on the Tibetan Plateau. The drying and rewetting experiment conducted in this study included three phases: a 10-day predrying phase, a 32-day drying phase, and an 18-day rewetting phase. During the experiment, the water table varied between 0 and 50 cm with re...
